Sources & Methodology

A compact account of what the archive knows, how it knows it, and where uncertainty remains.

Evidence language //

Observation and interpretation are related, not interchangeable.

Measured data

A quantity tied to an observation or instrument. Precision, reference frame and measurement conditions should be shown when they matter.

Inference

A conclusion drawn from measurements—for example, inferring a planet from a star's motion. The evidence and reasoning should remain visible.

Model-dependent result

A value or interpretation that changes with assumptions, calibration or the selected physical model. It is labelled approximate, a range or model-dependent.

Hypothesis

A proposed explanation that remains open to testing. It is not presented as an established observation.

Editorial practice //

Unsupported numerical claims are not treated as established facts. Where a useful value remains uncertain, the record states that uncertainty rather than filling a field with false precision.

Primary references are preferred: NASA/NSSDCA fact sheets, NASA/JPL Horizons, the NASA Exoplanet Archive, NASA/IPAC NED, ESA, observatory and mission teams, treaty repositories, and peer-reviewed literature where appropriate. Secondary sources may support context but should not replace the originating evidence.

AwareHorizon currently stores a locally curated archive. It does not imply a live connection to these services. A source and last-verified date appear where a local value or changing status needs that context.

Compact source blocks identify the references attached to a record. They are a transparent reading path, not a claim that every sentence is independently verified in real time.

The archive is periodically reviewed against primary references in an internal, dated fact-check pass; it is not peer review, and a citation does not mean every individual claim has been traced to a specific primary paper.
