INSIDE A BLACK HOLE
Past the horizon, description itself begins to fail.
THE LIGHT AROUND IT
Some black holes are surrounded by luminous disks of infalling matter; many are not. What you see depends on the black hole's environment, not on the black hole emitting light of its own.
GRAVITY DIVERGES
Gravity pulls more strongly on the nearer parts of you, stretching in one direction and squeezing in others. How severe this becomes near the horizon depends strongly on the black hole's mass.
THE ONE-WAY BOUNDARY
The event horizon is not a wall or a material surface. It is a causal boundary: after crossing it, every possible path through spacetime leads farther inward, and no signal can return outside.
BEYOND OBSERVATION
Classical general relativity predicts continued inward evolution, but the deep interior has never been observed directly. Where quantum physics must replace that description remains unresolved.
